Saw it earlier today. Looks awesome. Couldn't get a picture because I was driving but found one on google.

They also seem to have a different paintjob which looks quite nice too.

White walls need to make a come back.

Anyone know why they went away? Style? Cost? Safety?

Probably out of style, just like RWL tires.

I really wish I could find a performance street RWL tire in a 275/40/17 but alas, no joy.

I know with whitewalls, since they have to basically cast in the white rubber, they tend to be pricier to make and more expensive/difficult to balance. The white rubber is I think also not necessarily as stable long-term, since (if natural white) it's not carbon-black laced and vulcanized to the same extent.

I'm actually kind of surprised you can buy really high load range whitewalls. I know through coker there are some pretty harsh speed limits on a lot of the wide whites they sell.

Coker stuff is also made for appearance first and performance second if I remember correctly.

It can be. Coker have a number of different manufacturers on that stuff - not just themselves. The moderate whitewalls out of BF goodrich they sell are okay, the period-correct ueber alles stuff is really not trackday-rated at all in some cases. However, there are some exceptions ...

(If you'll note, that one's out of Coker, but it's a Firestone)
